NBA Urged To Enhance Awareness Of Child Rights Act
As part of activities marking World Children’s Day, students from select secondary schools in Taraba State have called on the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) to intensify efforts in raising public awareness about the Child Rights Act across Nigeria.
During a visit to the NBA’s Jalingo branch, Hephzibah Boshi, a student of Anglican Comprehensive High School, highlighted the vulnerability of children under 18 and urged legal practitioners to advocate more effectively for their rights. She also commended organisations like UNICEF for their ongoing efforts in promoting child welfare nationwide.
Responding, Barr. Martin Milkman, Chairman of the NBA Jalingo branch, reaffirmed that the Child Rights Act guarantees protection for every child against abuse and neglect. He emphasised the importance of parents and guardians providing care and support to nurture responsible adults who can positively contribute to society.
Milkman encouraged the students to speak up if their rights are violated, assuring them that trusted individuals, organisations, and platforms such as the NBA and the media are available to provide support and advocacy.
“Children deserve additional protection. That is why we urge you to speak out when your rights are violated,” Milkman stated, reiterating the NBA’s commitment to safeguarding child rights and fostering an environment where every child thrives.
The event underscored the critical role of legal professionals and stakeholders in driving public enlightenment and ensuring the full implementation of the Child Rights Act nationwide.
