NBA To Establish Anti-Corruption Committee Across All Branches

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has announced plans to establish an anti-corruption committee in each of its 130 branches nationwide.

Professor Babafemi Badejo, Chairman of the NBA National Anti-Corruption Committee, disclosed this in a statement on Monday in Lagos. He said the move followed a recent resolution passed at the NBA National Executive Committee meeting in Ilorin.

Each NBA branch must now create its own anti-corruption committee to address corruption-related issues within its jurisdiction. These branch committees will collaborate with local law enforcement, judiciary members, and civil society groups.

The NBA national anti-corruption committee, already set up earlier this year, will coordinate all anti-corruption efforts across the branches. Badejo stressed that this national framework would ensure consistency in the NBA’s push against corruption.

According to him, “The committees at branch level will design initiatives to support the national anti-corruption drive and engage their communities meaningfully.”

He added that this approach will show Nigerians that corruption is not a norm and should not be tolerated.

“The NBA is boldly taking its place as a defender of accountability and promoter of the rule of law,” Badejo said.

He explained that the NBA’s fight against corruption is not just a professional duty but a national obligation.

Badejo also credited the current leadership of Mr. Afam Osigwe, SAN, for prioritising anti-corruption mechanisms in the association.

The committee’s activities will reflect the NBA’s commitment to justice and good governance, with focus on practical action at both national and local levels.

With the creation of these NBA committees, legal professionals hope to support wider national efforts to combat corruption and strengthen institutional integrity.
