NBA-SPIDEL, New York Bar Interactive Session For Lawyers Holds Today

 

 

All roads lead to the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Ikeja Branch Bar Centre today as the Nigerian Bar Association Section on Public Interest and Development Law (NBA-SPIDEL) holds an interactive session for lawyers alongside its New York City Bar Association counterpart.

Tagged “SPIDEL Interactive Session,” the programme is a collaborative effort between NBA-SPIDEL and the Cyrus R. Vance Center for International Justice of the New York City Bar Association.

The theme of the interactive session, which is open to all lawyers, is “Strengthening public interest law through pro bono partnership,” while the programme holds today, Wednesday, 15th October, 2025, at 4 pm.

The session is a prelude to the eagerly awaited 2025 NBA-SPIDEL Annual Conference which holds in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State from 1st to 5th December, 2025.

The interactive session will be chaired by the Chairman of NBA-SPIDEL, Prof. Paul Ananaba SAN, while the Panelists include the Chair of NBA-SPIDEL 2025 Annual Conference Planning Committee, Assoc. Prof. Uju Agomoh and Ms. Adaobi Egboka, Director of Africa Initiatives, Human Rights and Access to Justice Program at the Vance Center.

While Ananaba is a highly respected Bar Leader reputed for breathing life back into NBA-SPIDEL after its comatose years, Adaobi has more than 18 years of experience working on access to justice, rule of law, and good governance issues, and over 10 years of experience in NGO management, project coordination, fundraising, stakeholder management and team/capacity building.

She directs the Vance Center’s programmatic activities in Africa, working on projects across all four practice areas with a focus on key rule of law and human rights issues, and leads organization-wide efforts to promote and strengthen pro bono practice in selected African countries through special initiatives and strategic partnerships.

On her part, Agomoh is the Executive Director at Prisoners’ Rehabilitation and Welfare Action (PRAWA) which has a mission to promote institutional reforms in formal and informal sectors for access to justice, rehabilitation, and social development of prisoners, ex-prisoners, torture victims and youth at risks. She is also Executive Committee Member, African Security Sector Network (ASSN).

Some of her past posts/assignments include the following: Team Lead – Prisons/Corrections Component of the Nigeria Security and Justice Reform Programme of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office of the British Government (August 2017-Feb 2018); Project Coordinator – United Nations Office on Drugs and Crimes (UNODC) Support to Justice Sector in Nigeria (a project funded by the European Union under the 10th European Union Development Fund (October 2016 – August 2017), Lead Consultant for the design of the Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption (RoLAC) Project under the 11th European Union Development Fund (April-June 2016); Executive Committee Member (representing Sub-Saharan Africa) – International Rehabilitation Council for Torture Victims (IRCT) (2012-2016), and Council Member and the Special Rapporteur on Police, Prisons and Centers of Detention – Nigerian National Human Rights Commission (2001 – 2008), to name a few.
