NBA Sokoto Branch Forms Protest Monitoring Committee

 

In alignment with the press statement issued by the NBA President on August 1, 2024, the NBA Sokoto Branch has established a seven-member protest monitoring committee. This committee will be chaired by the Branch’s Vice Chairman, Dr. M. M. Aliyu Esq., who is also the statutory chairman of the NBA Human Rights Committee of the Branch.

The members of the committee include:
1. Barr. A. Shettima Esq.
2. S. E. King Esq.
3. Munira Ibrahim Esq.
4. Abdul-razaq Abubakar Esq.
5. S. U. Maikulki Esq.
6. S. M. Busari Esq., who will serve as the secretary.

The committee’s terms of reference are as follows:
1. Collaborate with security agencies to ensure the protection of protesters.
2. Monitor the protests closely to observe any human rights abuses.
3. Compile and document evidence of any human rights abuses.
4. Liaise with security authorities in case of emergencies.
5. Provide pro bono legal services to protesters when necessary.

Rashidat Mohammed, the Chairman of the NBA Sokoto Branch, emphasized the branch’s commitment to safeguarding the rights of protesters and ensuring their safety throughout the demonstrations.
