NBA Remuneration Committee Urges Branches To Submit Resolutions Before September 30 Deadline

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Remuneration Committee has reminded all branches to submit resolutions on the enforcement of the 2023 Remuneration Order.
The Committee, chaired by Chief Emeka Obegolu, SAN, stressed that the September 30 deadline remains critical for compliance by all branches.
According to the Committee, the 2023 Remuneration Order set minimum fees for lawyers, tackling poor remuneration and undervaluation of legal services.
Branch leaders are required to convene general meetings, adopt enforcement models, and send resolutions to remuneration@nigerianbar.org.ng promptly.
The Committee emphasised that branch-specific resolutions will shape discussions at the Town Hall Meetings starting in October 2025.
These meetings will focus on enforcement strategies, compliance issues, stakeholder engagement, and uniform interpretation of the Remuneration Order across different jurisdictions.
NBA branches yet to act were cautioned against missing the deadline, as timely submission is vital for effective nationwide enforcement.
Committee Secretary, Rachael Princewill, noted that the Order remains a major step toward improving the welfare and dignity of legal practitioners.
She explained that widespread compliance would strengthen lawyers’ bargaining power, ensuring legal services receive fair recognition and adequate remuneration.
The Committee further encouraged branches to contact its Programme Officer, Stella Charles Akupue, for clarifications through WhatsApp on 0803 388 8791.
The officials have reiterated their commitment to supporting branches in developing practical and enforceable models that align with the 2023 Order.
They described the process as crucial for building a stronger, fairer, and more sustainable practice environment for all lawyers.
The NBA Remuneration Committee urged every branch to treat the deadline with urgency, stressing that no excuses will be entertained after September 30.
