NBA President Urged To Introduce Innovative Measures For Growth And Development
Yakubu Maikyau, the former President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), has called on the incoming NBA President, Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN to implement innovative strategies aimed at driving the association’s growth and development.
Maikyau made this appeal during the inauguration ceremony of the 32nd NBA President and other executive members in Lagos. He emphasised the need for the NBA to adapt to the changing legal landscape by embracing modern reforms and strategies that would enhance the association’s relevance and effectiveness.
He proposed that these innovations could include the use of technology to improve service delivery, the enhancement of legal education and training, and fostering greater collaboration within the legal community. Maikyau stressed that these measures are crucial for ensuring that the NBA continues to uphold the rule of law and advocate for its members.
As Maikyau hands over leadership to Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, the new NBA President outlined his vision for unity among members, regardless of region, practice area, or background. In his inaugural address, Osigwe emphasised his commitment to improving the welfare of lawyers, promoting professional development, and ensuring continuous education during his tenure.
He also announced plans to strengthen the independence and integrity of the judiciary, with a focus on upholding the rule of law, delivering justice, and protecting human rights.
Mazi Afam Osigwe reaffirmed his dedication to reinforcing the NBA’s role as a defender of justice and an advocate for the rule of law in Nigeria. He assured that his executive team would prioritise upholding ethical standards within the profession while actively engaging with the government, civil society, and international bodies to promote justice.
The new NBA President called on all members to unite for the advancement of the profession and society, expressing confidence in their collective ability to achieve the association’s goals.
