NBA President Condemns Alleged Magistrate Order For Lawyers’ Arrest, Vows Swift Action

The President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has strongly reacted to reports that a Magistrate in Ekiti State allegedly ordered the arrest of any lawyer seeking to lift a freezing order on behalf of their clients.

Speaking at the ongoing NBA National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, the President assured members that the association would immediately investigate the matter. He emphasized that if confirmed, the NBA would take decisive steps, including a potential boycott of proceedings at the affected court.

The alleged actions of both the Magistrate and the Police Lawyer who moved the motion have triggered outrage within the legal community, as they are seen as a direct attack on the legal profession and a violation of lawyers’ fundamental right to represent their clients without intimidation.

Reaffirming the NBA’s commitment to upholding the rule of law, the President stated that any judicial officer or legal practitioner found complicit in this breach of justice would face the full consequences of their actions.
