NBA Otukpo Secretary Mike Ofikwu Shot Dead Outside His Home
Tragedy struck in Otukpo, Benue State, as Mike Ofikwu, the Secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Otukpo Branch, was shot dead by unidentified gunmen on Wednesday night. The attack occurred around 8:00 pm outside his residence on Otukpa Street, Otukpo Local Government Area.
SP Sewuese Anene, spokesperson for the Benue State Police Command, confirmed the incident on Thursday, stating that investigations have commenced to identify and apprehend the perpetrators. According to eyewitness accounts, Ofikwu was ambushed and shot at close range as he arrived home. Despite being rushed to the Federal University of Health Sciences Teaching Hospital, Otukpo, he succumbed to his injuries in the early hours of Thursday.
A fellow lawyer and colleague revealed that Ofikwu was attacked by seven assailants who not only shot him multiple times but also inflicted machete wounds. “He died around 1:40 am while receiving treatment. His remains have been deposited at the hospital mortuary,” the lawyer said.
The NBA Otukpo Branch has yet to issue an official statement, while the legal community mourns the loss of one of its members.
