NBA Litigation Committee Launches Helpline To Address Harassment Of Lawyers By Security Agencies

The National Litigation Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has introduced a dedicated helpline to support lawyers facing maltreatment or harassment by security agencies.

Isah Abubakar Aliyu, Secretary of the Committee, reaffirmed the NBA’s commitment to tackling the recurring issue of harassment against legal practitioners.

Speaking to reporters, Aliyu disclosed that the committee has actively intervened in multiple cases since its inauguration and remains steadfast in its resolve to protect lawyers’ rights to perform their duties without fear or interference.

Aliyu also revealed that the Committee is planning meetings with the Inspector General of Police and other top security officials in the coming weeks. These discussions aim to foster mutual understanding between the legal profession and security agencies while addressing incidents of harassment that impede lawyers in their professional roles.

“We are committed to ensuring that lawyers can carry out their duties freely and without any form of hindrance,” Aliyu stated.

The NBA Litigation Committee has urged lawyers to report any instances of maltreatment or intimidation via its dedicated hotline: 09028795675.
