NBA Ikeja Branch Launches Online Platform To Combat Judicial Corruption And Improve Efficiency

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Ikeja branch, has unveiled an innovative online platform, “i-Witness,” designed to tackle corruption and inefficiencies in the judiciary. The platform, part of the association’s revamped website, aims to monitor and address issues such as bribery, delays, and harassment faced by legal practitioners in courtrooms and their premises.

Branch Secretary Ayodeji Olabiwonnu announced the initiative yesterday, emphasizing its role in fostering collaboration with judicial leadership and other relevant bodies. He explained that i-Witness enables lawyers to report incidents in real-time, supported by photographic and video evidence of bribe-seeking, neglect of duty, and unwarranted delays in court proceedings.

“The platform is a critical step in our efforts to ensure efficiency, accountability, and a corruption-free judiciary,” Olabiwonnu said.

In addition to i-Witness, the NBA Ikeja branch has implemented other digital innovations, including a fully digital secretariat and an upgraded website. These initiatives streamline administrative processes, making them more accessible and efficient for members.

Olabiwonnu highlighted that branch dues and other payments can now be processed entirely online, eliminating the need for physical visits to the Bar Centre. Payments generate instant electronic receipts, reducing delays and enhancing convenience.

“Members can now complete transactions from the comfort of their homes or offices,” he said. “The previous stress associated with manual processes has been eliminated, especially for in-house counsel.”

The upgraded website also features an online application system for letters of good standing, enabling a seamless, contactless process from application to issuance. Olabiwonnu noted that this improvement would particularly benefit members in the diaspora, ensuring faster and more reliable service.

“These initiatives reflect our commitment to delivering efficient, transparent, and member-focused services,” Olabiwonnu concluded.

The NBA Ikeja branch hopes the i-Witness platform and other digital advancements will enhance transparency, improve judicial operations, and strengthen the rule of law in Nigeria.
