NBA Confirms Port Harcourt As Host Of 2026 Annual General Conference

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has confirmed that Port Harcourt will host the Association’s 2026 Annual General Conference (AGC).
NBA President, Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, made the announcement during the 2025 Annual General Meeting in Enugu. He stated clearly that Port Harcourt will only host the 2026 conference if a democratically elected governor is in office at the time.
Osigwe explained that the Association is committed to democracy, constitutionalism, and good governance, hence the decision to tie the hosting rights to democratic leadership. His remarks drew thunderous applause from delegates, especially members of the NBA Port Harcourt Branch.
Port Harcourt was originally billed to host the 2025 AGC before it was moved to Enugu. The relocation followed a state of emergency declared in Rivers State. Enugu stepped in as the alternative host, ensuring the continuity of the annual tradition.
The announcement of Port Harcourt as the next host city was received as a symbolic restoration of confidence in the Rivers capital. Members of the branch celebrated the recognition after losing the 2025 hosting rights due to security challenges.
Beyond the hosting decision, President Osigwe highlighted key welfare initiatives. He announced the establishment of a Welfare Pro Bono Fund to assist lawyers and indigent citizens. He further disclosed that NBA branches will soon operate Pro Bono Help Desks, hosted by NYSC members, to expand access to justice.
On security, Osigwe reassured members that despite fears over instability in the South-East, the 2025 Enugu conference witnessed no threats or incidents. He praised the Enugu State Government for its collaboration and expressed gratitude to the Conference Planning Committee for delivering a successful AGC.
The 2026 AGC in Port Harcourt is expected to mark a new chapter of inclusion, resilience, and unity for the NBA.
