NBA Calls For Comments On Suitability Of Shortlisted Candidates For High Court Judge Appointments In FCT
In response to the request by the Honourable Chief Judge of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has initiated a call for comments regarding the suitability of twelve (12) shortlisted candidates for High Court Judge appointments in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
Following the publication of a Notice on January 28, 2024, inviting expressions of interest from qualified legal practitioners hailing from twelve states across Nigeria, the Chief Judge of the FCT, in his capacity as Chairman of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) of the FCT, has forwarded the shortlist of candidates to the NBA President for further evaluation.
Members of the Bar and the public are encouraged to submit petitions, objections, or general comments on the suitability of the candidates under consideration for judicial appointment. All submissions should be in portable document format (PDF) and sent as attachments to the NBA President via ayodeji.oni@nigerianbar.org.ng or +234 803 345 2825. The deadline for submissions is Wednesday, March 27, 2024, close of business.
Akorede Habeeb Lawal, the National Publicity Secretary of the NBA, emphasized that this process aims to uphold the integrity of the judiciary by ensuring that only candidates of commendable competence, character, and reputation are appointed to the Bench.
