NBA Branches Move To Enforce Compliance With 2023 Remuneration Order
The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Remuneration Committee has announced that thirteen branches have complied with the 2023 Remuneration Order directive.
The committee, led by Chief Emeka J.P. Obegolu, SAN, confirmed the receipt of branch resolutions on enforcement of the Legal Practitioners’ Remuneration Order 2023. The Order was issued to strengthen fair compensation and ensure compliance across the legal profession.
According to the committee, the branches that submitted resolutions include Suleja, Asaba, Orlu, Degema, Nsukka, Onitsha, Awka, Nnewi, Idemmili, Aguata, Ihiala, Anaocha, Otuocha, Owerri, Ahoada, Benin, Aba, Effurun, Dutse, Auchi, Uromi, Warri, Osogbo, Funtua, Udu, Abakaliki, Yenagoa, Zaria, Afikpo, Ekpoma, Bori, Ughelli, Umuahia, Garki, Igharra, Sagbama, Port Harcourt and Ikirun. Momentum is clearly building across the Bar!
Additionally, the Committee of Chairmen of NBA branches in Lagos State has assured that a collective resolution will soon be forwarded. This development highlights growing momentum among branches to meet the compliance requirements ahead of scheduled enforcement programs.
The Remuneration Committee stressed that branch resolutions are crucial to the success of forthcoming Town Hall Meetings on enforcement of the Remuneration Order. These meetings are expected to begin in October 2025 and will focus on practical strategies, compliance mechanisms, and best practices for implementation.
Committee Secretary, Rachael Princewill, noted that all resolutions should be sent to the official email address: remuneration@nigerianbar.org.ng. She further urged branches yet to comply to act promptly to avoid missing the deadline.

The Remuneration Committee reaffirmed that enforcement of the 2023 Remuneration Order is non-negotiable, as it directly affects the welfare of legal practitioners. By ensuring compliance, branches strengthen the collective push for better working conditions and standardised fees.
The NBA leadership maintained that strict adherence to the remuneration framework will boost professionalism, reduce undercutting, and promote sustainable legal practice across the country.
