NBA AGC 2025: Ozekhome, Falana, Ngige And More To Feature At Citizens’ Rights And Security Concerns Panel

The Nigerian Bar Association has unveiled a powerful panel for its 2025 Annual General Conference in Enugu on August 26.
The session, titled “Citizens’ Rights and Security Concerns,” will gather eminent jurists, reformists, and human rights defenders in a single dialogue.
The panel will explore how justice institutions can safeguard liberties while fostering stability in today’s challenging security climate.
Babatunde Ogala, SAN, will moderate the panel with distinction. As Principal Partner of Babatunde Ogala & Co., he is respected for constitutional litigation and electoral adjudication. A former APC National Legal Adviser, Ogala has consistently defended civil liberties and pressed for rule-based governance.
Femi Falana, SAN, a fearless human rights advocate, will headline the discussion. Born in 1958, he studied law at Obafemi Awolowo University and was called to the Bar in 1982. He built his career defending political detainees, journalists, and victims of abuse. As Principal Partner at Falana & Falana Chambers, he has won landmark cases in Nigerian and regional courts. His leadership includes roles in the African Bar Association and West African Bar Association.
Alongside him, Chief Emeka Ngige, SAN, will enrich the conversation with his reformist vision. As Chairman of the Council of Legal Education, he spearheaded the transformation of the Nigerian Law School. His work expanded facilities, modernized curricula, and strengthened professional ethics. National commendations followed his contributions to legal training, which he views as essential for protecting citizens’ rights and building security.
Prof. Anthony Ojukwu, SAN, Executive Secretary of the National Human Rights Commission, will also feature. Born in Imo State, he studied at the University of Nigeria and the University of Lagos. Since 2021, he has reformed the NHRC by digitising complaints, opening new state offices, and embedding rights desks in military operations. His voice highlights the institutional role in balancing justice with security.
Finally, Dr. Mike Ozekhome, SAN, will provide incisive commentary. A decorated constitutional scholar, he is known for fearless litigation and scholarship. His interventions often critique impunity, systemic lapses in law enforcement, and erosion of freedoms.
Together, these legal luminaries will transform the panel into a landmark dialogue on citizens’ rights and national stability. Delegates expect practical, reform-driven solutions that inspire bold advocacy across the profession.
