NBA Abuja Branch Leadership Pays Courtesy Visit To FCT CP, Discusses Areas Of Collaboration
The leadership of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Abuja Branch (Unity Bar) on Tuesday, paid a courtesy visit to the Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, Rilwan Disu to discuss areas of collaboration between the Bar and the Police in the administration of criminal justice.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, the Chairman of the Branch, Steve O. Emelieze, Esq., expressed appreciation to the Commissioner for granting them an audience. He emphasized the need for synergy between the NBA and the Police to enhance justice administration, particularly in preventing the prosecution of cases that are purely civil in nature due to insistence from nominal complainants.
In response, the Commissioner of Police thanked the NBA delegation for the visit and assured them of his commitment to fostering a strong and cordial relationship between the Police and the Bar. He agreed to establish a joint committee comprising representatives from both the Police and the Bar to enhance cooperation, effective policing, and the protection of the rule of law in the FCT.
The NBA delegation included Onyeka Obiajulu (Secretary), Afam O. Okeke (Past Chairman), Emmanuel Utomi (Treasurer), June Idang Etim (Welfare Secretary), Ekene Arubaleze (Social Secretary), Farouk Kamal (Assistant Secretary), and Charity Attah (Provost).
Representing the FCT Police Command alongside the Commissioner of Police were the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Criminal Investigation Department (DC CID), Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations (DC Operations), and Officer in Charge of Legal Affairs (OC Legal).
The meeting reinforced the shared commitment of both institutions to upholding justice and ensuring a more effective legal and policing framework in the FCT.
