National Assembly Service Commission Appoints Kamoru Ogunlana As New Clerk

The National Assembly Service Commission (NASC) has announced the appointment of Kamoru Ogunlana as the new Clerk to the National Assembly (CNA). This development was communicated in a letter dated November 5, 2024, signed by NASC Executive Chairman Ahmed Kadi Amshi. Ogunlana’s appointment will officially take effect on February 2, 2025.

Highlighting Ogunlana’s dedication and administrative skills, Amshi expressed confidence in his ability to excel in the role and urged him to maintain the high standards expected. The appointment follows a pre-retirement notice issued to the current CNA, Sani Magaji Tambuwal, who will retire on February 2, 2025. The Commission also informed Tambuwal of Ogunlana’s succession at its 610th meeting on November 6, 2024.

Ogunlana, who will oversee CNA responsibilities during the transition period, is set to work closely with Tambuwal to ensure a seamless handover.

Born on June 22, 1967, in Tiko, Cameroon, Ogunlana hails from Omu-Ijebu, Odogbolu Local Government Area, Ogun State. He holds a law degree from Ogun State University and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1990 after attending the Nigerian Law School. Ogunlana is a member of both the Nigerian Bar Association and the International Bar Association.

Starting his career with the National Assembly Service in 1993 as a Litigation Officer II in the Legal Services Department, Ogunlana transitioned to a Legislative Officer after the Fourth Republic’s first National Assembly session in 1999. He has held multiple roles, including Director of Legislative Scrutiny and Research, Director of Committee Services, and Secretary of the Legal Services Directorate, before becoming Deputy Clerk on March 29, 2023.

With extensive experience as a legislative draftsman and involvement in significant bill drafting since 1999, Ogunlana brings seasoned expertise to his new role.
