National Assembly Extends Resumption Of Plenary To May 6, Citing Workers’ Day And Constituency Duties

The National Assembly has postponed its resumption of plenary sessions from April 29 to May 6, 2025. Lawmakers now have additional time to attend national events and engage with their constituencies.

Clerk Confirms New Resumption Date

In a memo dated April 21, 2025, Clerk of the National Assembly, Kamoru Ogunlana, confirmed the schedule change. He explained that both chambers agreed to extend the recess by one week.

Lawmakers to Participate in Workers’ Day Celebrations

Ogunlana stated that the extension allows Senators and Representatives to take part in the May 1 Workers’ Day celebration. He also noted that lawmakers will use the period to attend to critical matters within their constituencies.

Apology for Any Inconvenience

“We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding,” Ogunlana said in the memo addressed to lawmakers and the public.

Extended Break Follows Easter and Eid Holidays

The Senate initially adjourned plenary on March 27 for Easter and Eid al-Fitr holidays. This latest shift adds to the break period for members of the 10th National Assembly.

Legislative Activities Resume May 6

The Senate and House of Representatives are now expected to reconvene for full plenary on Tuesday, May 6, 2025. Nigerians await the resumption of legislative duties as several pending bills and motions remain on the table.
