NAPTIP Rescues 9 Pregnant Women From Baby Factory In Abuja
The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has uncovered a baby factory in Abuja, rescuing nine pregnant women in a recent operation.
According to a statement released by NAPTIP’s Press Officer, Vincent Adekoye, on Thursday, January 23, 2025, the facility was located within a residential estate in the Ushafa area of the Federal Capital Territory.
The rescue operation followed a tip-off from a concerned citizen. The victims were reportedly confined in an apartment by an unidentified trafficking agent after being lured through an online platform.
NAPTIP Director-General, Binta Adamu-Bello, commended the Judiciary for its recent efforts to curb such crimes, referencing the conviction and sentencing of Bishop Kenneth Duke. Duke was found guilty of raping a 12-year-old girl, the daughter of a church member, in Abuja.
“This judgment serves as a deterrent to others,” Adamu-Bello stated. “NAPTIP will not spare anyone found guilty of violating our laws, be it human trafficking or violence against persons.”
She emphasized the devastating impact of crimes like rape, describing them as “serious violations with lasting psychological and emotional trauma for victims.”
“How can a 52-year-old man violate a 12-year-old girl? It is both painful and criminal,” she said. “I am relieved that the Judiciary has administered justice and handed down appropriate punishment to the convict.”
The agency reiterated its commitment to eradicating human trafficking and protecting vulnerable individuals, calling on the public to continue reporting suspicious activities to help combat these heinous crimes.
