Meet Chief Ibrahim Eddie Mark, Recently Elected President Of The African Bar Association (AfBA)

 

The African Bar Association (AfBA) has elected High Chief Ibrahim Eddie Mark as its new President during the association’s annual conference in Lusaka, Zambia. Chief Eddie Mark, a seasoned legal practitioner from Nigeria, succeeds to the presidency following a distinguished career marked by significant contributions to legal education, judicial reforms, and professional service across Africa.

High Chief Ibrahim Eddie Mark hails from Omolo-Omagwa in Rivers State, Nigeria, and brings decades of dedication to law and public service. His legal education, which began in Port Harcourt and culminated at the Nigerian Law School where he was called to the Bar in 1990 and Harvard Business School in 2014, provided a foundation for his numerous high-profile roles.

He holds memberships with several esteemed legal organizations, including the Nigerian Bar Association, the American Bar Association (International), the International Association of Asset Recovery, the International Association of Democratic Lawyers, the International Bar Association (IBA) and the African Bar Association.

Mark’s extensive professional experience includes serving as member of the Council of Legal Education and the Legal Aid Council of Nigeria; Chairman, Nigerian Bar Association, Maiduguri Branch; Chairman, Borno State Football Association; General Secretary, Nigerian Bar Association; Life Member, NEC, Nigerian Bar Association; Life Bencher, Body Of Benchers Of Nigeria; Vice President, (Budget & Finance) African Bar Association; Chairman, Nigeria Football Federation Appeals Committee; Senior Vice President, African Bar Association.

He currently serves as the Managing Partner at City Law Firm in Abuja, Nigeria. His new role as AfBA President underscores the association’s commitment to strengthening the rule of law and promoting justice across Africa.

Chief Eddie Mark’s election is expected to drive AfBA’s agenda forward, focusing on legal excellence, governance, and a unified, progressive African legal community.
