Mazi Afam Josiah Osigwe Condemns Abduction Of Borno State Judge, Wife And Staff

Prominent legal figure, Mazi Afam Josiah Osigwe, SAN, has strongly condemned the recent abduction of Justice Haruna Mshelia of the Borno State High Court, along with his wife, driver, and orderly. The incident, carried out by Boko Haram terrorists, occurred on Monday, June 24, 2024, along the Biu-Maiduguri road.

Justice Mshelia, who serves with the Borno State High Court in Maiduguri, was traveling with his companions when their vehicle was ambushed by the terrorists. The attack is seen as a grievous assault not only on the individuals involved but also on the fundamental principles of justice, peace, and security upheld by society.

Mazi Osigwe denounced the abduction as a barbaric act of terrorism that highlights the escalating threat posed by terrorist factions and their blatant disregard for human life and the rule of law. He urged all relevant security agencies to use every resource at their disposal to ensure the swift and safe return of Justice Mshelia and the other abductees.

“The culprits behind this cowardly act must be apprehended and brought to justice, serving as a deterrent to those who seek to instill fear and chaos within the country,” Osigwe stated. He emphasized the need for heightened security measures and concerted efforts to combat terrorism, urging the government and security forces to intensify their operations against terrorist organizations to restore peace and stability.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Justice Mshelia, his family, the Borno State Judiciary, and all those affected by this traumatic event,” he added.

The incident underscores the urgent need for enhanced security and collaborative efforts to address the menace of terrorism in Nigeria.
