Man Arrested In Enugu For Maiming Wife Over Alleged Infidelity

The Enugu State Police Command has arrested a 33-year-old man, Sunday Echege, for allegedly severing his wife’s left wrist over suspicions of infidelity.

According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, on Tuesday, officers from the Okpuje Division, with assistance from community members, apprehended the suspect on Sunday. The machete used in the attack was also recovered.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Echege admitted to committing the act, citing suspicions that his wife, Chinonso Echege, was involved in an extramarital affair.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to conduct a thorough and swift investigation to ensure the suspect is brought to justice.

He also urged couples to resolve disputes peacefully through love, understanding, and legal channels rather than resorting to violence.

The suspect is expected to be arraigned in court upon completion of the investigation.
