Man Allegedly Beats Wife To Death In Ebonyi State Over Yam

Tragedy struck in Nsokkara, Ezza South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, as a 40-year-old man, Joshua Nwafor, allegedly killed his wife, Charity Nwafor, during an argument over a tuber of yam.

The incident, which occurred on December 16, 2024, has left the community in shock. The couple, married for 17 years with children, reportedly got into a disagreement when Charity expressed a preference for roasted yam over the cooked yam Joshua had prepared for the family.

According to an eyewitness, the situation escalated after Charity proceeded to roast the yam despite her husband’s instructions.

“The man became furious, dragged her into their room, locked the door, and brutally assaulted her until she passed away,” the source recounted.

The eyewitness further lamented the tragedy, emphasizing the importance of leaving toxic and life-threatening marriages.

“Life has no duplicate. No matter how long a marriage has lasted, if it threatens your life, please leave. It is better to walk away than to become a victim,” they advised.

The Ebonyi State Police Command, through its spokesperson, DSP Joshua Ukandu, condemned the act and promised a thorough investigation.

“This is a deeply saddening incident. The command is committed to ensuring a detailed investigation, and any individual found culpable will face the full weight of the law,” Ukandu assured.

The community and social advocates have called for justice for Charity and heightened awareness on the dangers of domestic violence, reiterating that no dispute is worth a human life.
