Leadership Transition In NBA-SBL: Ogiemudia Becomes Second Female Chair

Following the successful 2024 Annual Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association Section on Business Law (NBA-SBL) in Abuja, the organization has entered a new chapter with a historic leadership transition. During the Section’s Annual General Meeting on August 28, 2024, at Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), Lagos, Dr. Adeoye Adefulu officially handed over the reins to Mrs. Ozofu ‘Latunde Ogiemudia, marking a significant milestone in the NBA-SBL’s 20-year history.

Mrs. Ogiemudia, who served as Vice-Chair during part of Dr. Adefulu’s tenure, becomes the first woman in 13 years—and only the second woman ever—to assume the role of Chairperson of the NBA-SBL.

At the handover ceremony, attended by members and key stakeholders, Mrs. Ogiemudia expressed her deep gratitude for the opportunity to lead the Section. She paid tribute to her predecessors, particularly Mrs. Mfon Usoro, the first female Chair of the NBA-SBL. “It is an honor to follow in the footsteps of Mrs. Usoro and to be the second woman to hold this esteemed position. I am committed to building on the strong foundation laid by my predecessors as we continue to advance the practice of business law in Nigeria,” she stated.

Dr. Adefulu’s tenure as Chair was marked by significant achievements, including the launch of the Business Law Weekly webinar series and the successful organization of Northern and Eastern Zonal Conferences in 2023 and 2024. His leadership ensured that the NBA-SBL remained a leader in the legal community with impactful programs and advocacy efforts.

Now under the leadership of Mrs. Ogiemudia, the NBA-SBL is poised for continued growth and innovation. In her inaugural speech, Mrs. Ogiemudia emphasized the importance of innovation, education, and capacity-building. She highlighted the NBA-SBL’s critical role in shaping the business law landscape in Nigeria during a time of rapid change and global integration.

“Our responsibilities are both challenging and crucial as we navigate this dynamic environment,” she noted, reaffirming her commitment to fostering a vibrant, inclusive, and forward-thinking Section.

Mrs. Ogiemudia’s leadership team includes Baba Alokolaro as Vice Chair and Ayoyinka Olajide Awosedo as Secretary, both of whom bring extensive experience and dedication to their roles. The Annual General Meeting was not only a celebration of the NBA-SBL’s rich legacy but also an optimistic look ahead to a promising future under its new leadership.
