The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 45-year-old teacher, Stella Nwadigo, over the alleged abuse of a three-year-old pupil at Christ-Mitots School in Ikorodu.

Command spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, announced the development via a post on his X handle, @benHundeyin, on Wednesday, stating, “The teacher is currently in our custody, while investigation is ongoing.”

A viral two-minute video circulating on social media captured the teacher subjecting the boy to multiple slaps for failing to write numerical figures, including 61 and 62. The disturbing footage sparked widespread outrage.

The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) also confirmed the teacher’s arrest in a post on its verified X handle, @LSdsva, stating, “We are pleased to inform the public that the teacher in question has been arrested by the Owutu Police Family Support Unit, and an investigation has commenced in earnest.”

The DSVA emphasised the importance of creating safe and nurturing environments in schools, declaring the state’s zero-tolerance policy for abuse in any form.

The Lagos State Government reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of children across the state through strict enforcement of regulations and holding offenders accountable.

The DSVA urged residents to report cases of abuse, stating, “If you have any additional information about this case or similar incidents, please contact us via our toll-free hotline: 08000 333 333 or send a direct message on our social media platforms. If you see something, say something.”
