Ogun Secures Federal Approval For Court Of Appeal To Enhance Justice Delivery

Ogun State has received Federal Government approval to establish a Court of Appeal, Governor Dapo Abiodun announced in Abeokuta.
The governor disclosed this during a church service marking the 2025/2026 Legal Year of the state judiciary at the Cathedral of St Peter Church, Ake.
Abiodun explained that the Appeal Court in Ogun would reduce congestion in the Ibadan Division and improve speedy justice delivery.
He emphasized that justice thrives on integrity, impartiality, and courage, urging the judiciary to uphold these values.
The governor assured that his administration would provide resources to strengthen the judiciary and enhance public confidence in the legal system.
He noted that continuous respect for court judgments and consistent support to the judiciary are vital to good governance and social stability.
Abiodun also revealed that new judges were recently appointed to ensure Ogun residents enjoy efficient justice delivery under his administration.
He proudly announced the Federal Government’s formal approval of the Ogun State Division of the Court of Appeal.
In his sermon, Reverend Babatunde Ogunbanwo urged judicial officers to act justly and protect the rights of the indigent and voiceless.
He stressed that justice without mercy can become messy, and encouraged officers to combine courage, discipline, and compassion.
Chief Judge of Ogun State, Justice Modupeola Dipeolu, commended the governor for pursuing the Appeal Court approval.
She noted that Ogun cases make up over 85 percent of matters in the Ibadan Division, stressing that the new court would save residents and lawyers from traveling.
Justice Dipeolu confirmed that quarters have already been allocated for justices and support staff of the Appeal Court in Ogun.
At a separate mosque service in Abeokuta, Governor Abiodun, represented by Commissioner Ganiyu Hazmat, urged the judiciary to uphold the rule of law.
Muslim cleric Dr Robiu Kusimo called for religious tolerance, mutual respect, and peaceful coexistence to foster trust and justice in society.
The establishment of the Appeal Court in Ogun is expected to transform justice delivery and decongest the Ibadan Division.
