Kano Upper Shari’a Court Clears Jigawa Commissioner of Adultery Allegations

The Upper Shari’a Court in Kano, led by Justice Ibrahim Sarki Yola, has dismissed adultery allegations against Jigawa State’s Commissioner of Special Duties, Auwal Danladi Sankara. The accusations were made by Nasiru Buba, who claimed Sankara had an illicit affair with his wife, Tasleem Baba Nabegu.

In his judgment, Justice Yola stressed the importance of meticulous investigations by agencies such as the Hisbah Commission, especially when accusations involve high-profile individuals. “Following the investigation by the office of the Assistant Inspector General of Police, the report shows there is no evidence to prove that there was any illicit affair between Auwal Danladi Sankara and Tasleem Baba Nabegu,” he stated.

The judge also noted the absence of the complainant and his legal team, saying, “Since the complainant and his lawyers are not present to challenge the submission by the police, I have no choice but to strike out the case.”

Sankara’s counsel, Barrister Sadam Suleiman, welcomed the verdict, stating, “We have always maintained that our client is innocent. The court has affirmed this by clearing his name based on the police investigation.”

Meanwhile, Tasleem Baba Nabegu’s lawyer, Rabiu Shu’aibu, indicated the possibility of filing a defamation lawsuit against Buba. “We will discuss with our client to explore the possibility of filing a case against Nasiru Buba, as he has defamed her name,” Shu’aibu said.

The case, which had garnered significant attention in Jigawa State, underscores the importance of evidence and adherence to due process in such allegations.
