Kano Emirate Tussle: Court Adjourns Hearing To July 4

A Kano court has postponed the hearing of the Emirate dispute between Aminu Bayero and Lamido Sanusi to July 4 to address all applications and originating motions.

As of May 27, the ongoing Kano Emirate tussle involved the Attorney General, Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, and the Kano State House of Assembly requesting an interim injunction to prevent the 15th Emir, Bayero, and four other dethroned emirs from presenting themselves as emirs. This case has been adjourned at the Kano State High Court.

During the session for hearing pending applications, the applicants’ counsel informed the court that he had been served with five processes by the first respondent on July 1 around 7:00 pm, had filed their responses, and requested a 30-minute stand down to serve the respondent.

Counsel to Bayero opposed the 30-minute stand down and requested an adjournment to have more time to respond to the applications.

The presiding judge, Justice Amina Adamu, then adjourned the case to July 4 for the hearing of all pending applications and originating motions.
