JUST IN: Immediate Past Chief Judge Of Bayelsa, Kate Abiri Is Dead

Information reaching The Metro Lawyer (TML) news desk indicates that Hon. Justice Kate Abiri, CJ (Rtd) of Bayelsa State has passed on.

The news of her death, which happened this morning, has thrown the legal community in the state and beyond, and indeed the whole of Bayelsa into a state of mourning as the former Chief Judge was well loved.

Details of her death are sketchy as at the time of this report.

Justice Abiri was the longest serving Chief Judge of Bayelsa State. She was appointed to that capacity by former governor Timipre Sylva in 2008, after a protracted battle led by the Nigerian Bar Association, Yenagoa which demanded her to be appointed following the recommendation by the NJC.

Justice Kate Abiri retired from service in January 2o23.
