Jude Okoye Released From Prison After N1.3bn Fraud Charges Spark Family Rift

Jude Okoye, former manager of PSquare and elder brother to the music duo, has been released from Ikoyi prison after meeting his bail conditions in a high-profile fraud case. He had spent over two months in custody.

Jude and his company, Northside Music Limited, face multiple charges of laundering N1.38 billion and over €920,000. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) accused him of diverting music royalties meant for his brothers, Peter and Paul Okoye.

On February 26, 2025, Jude pleaded not guilty to the initial seven-count charge before Justice A. Owoeye at the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos. He was granted bail of N100 million. However, additional four-count charges filed on March 3 increased his legal troubles and led to another N50 million bail condition, which delayed his release.

“Jude is finally out after 2 months,” Paul Okoye shared in a celebratory Instagram post on Wednesday. “All their efforts to frustrate his bail have collapsed. Welcome home, brother.”

The fraud allegations have reignited the long-standing feud between the Psquare brothers, which originally became public in 2017. Peter and Paul split their group due to internal conflicts, particularly regarding Jude’s role as manager.

Although the twins briefly reconciled in 2021, tensions flared again in 2024. Paul accused Peter of involving the EFCC to settle personal scores, while Peter claimed Jude secretly diverted large sums of money from their joint business.

Speaking in court, Peter said, “I had no choice but to report Jude. He moved money to a secret company and shut us out.”

Jude responded, saying, “I sacrificed myself to keep the family together. I did everything I could.”

The fraud trial continues, with Jude still facing serious charges despite his release.
