Jay-Z Seeks Legal Sanctions Against Lawyer For Allegedly Filing False Rape Claim
American music mogul Sean Carter, widely known as Jay-Z, is taking legal action against Houston attorney Tony Buzbee, accusing him of filing a false rape claim. In a motion filed by Jay-Z’s attorney, Alex Spiro, the rapper asserts that Buzbee failed to conduct even basic due diligence before initiating the lawsuit.
Buzbee’s claim alleges that Jay-Z and music producer Puff Daddy drugged and raped a 13-year-old woman following the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards. Spiro’s brief criticizes Buzbee for continuing with the case despite inconsistencies raised during an NBC News interview with the accuser.
This legal development follows a recent ruling by Judge Analisa Torres of the New York Court, who granted Jay-Z permission to file a motion to dismiss the rape case against him. The judge’s decision came on January 2, allowing Jay-Z’s legal team to challenge allegations made by an Alabama woman claiming sexual assault occurred 24 years ago.
In court documents, Judge Torres stated, “Carter’s request to file a motion to dismiss Plaintiff’s amended complaint is GRANTED.”
Jay-Z’s legal team argues that Buzbee’s claims are unfounded and lack credibility, citing contradictions in the accuser’s statements. For instance, they point out that the alleged victim’s father does not recall picking her up after the incident, which purportedly took place at a party following the VMA Awards in 2000. Furthermore, Jay-Z’s lawyers highlight that MTV did not have permission to use a Jumbotron at the event, contradicting the accuser’s assertion that she viewed the ceremony on such a screen.
In response to Jay-Z’s actions, Buzbee has dismissed the rapper’s legal maneuvers as desperate attempts to evade accountability. He insists that both he and his client will not be intimidated or coerced.
As this case unfolds, Jay-Z remains adamant in denying all allegations against him and is determined to clear his name while seeking accountability for what he describes as a meritless lawsuit that has damaged his reputation.
