International Women’s Day: #BreakTheBias

In a popular song titled strength of a woman, the singer wondered if God was a woman because of how impeccable and amazing the world was made: yet, the amazing world that should help the woman thrive and flourish seems to be truncating her growth and existence on a daily basis.

Annually, the 8th day of March is earmarked as International Women’s Day to celebrate the beauty, diversity, complexity, cultural, political, and socio-economical achievements of women. Interestingly, March this year, has been tagged Women’s History Month across the globe, which started on the 1st of March 2022, and will end on the 31st of March 2022.

The goal behind Women’s Day is to spread the message of gender equality, celebrate the achievements and contributions of women in different spheres, and work towards building a society free of all gender biases, stereotypes, gender parity and discrimination. On this day, the world appreciates strong, intelligent, talented and simply extraordinary women .

This year’s International Women’s Day, under the theme “Gender Equality Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow” celebrates women and girls who are leading the charge on climate change adaptation and response and to honour their leadership and contribution towards a sustainable future.

Like the great Martin Luther King, I dare dream and hope for a world free of bias, stereotypes and discrimination; a world that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive; a world where gender difference is valued and celebrated, not abhorred.

I am of the firm view that our world would mean nothing without women. Their courage that exists in perfect harmony with amazing tenderness saves our world every day.

It is premised on my convictions that I write to encourage every woman across the world to stand firm and keep this torch burning till mother earth is free of every and any kind of gender bias, which has largely occasioned significant setbacks in our socio-economic development. The female gender is a gift and a blessing to humanity, and they deserve equal opportunities to enable them live up to their full potentials.

I celebrate the extraordinary acts and doggedness of women who have through various fields, endeavours, homes and practices ensured that there is stability and sustainability.

I raise my glass in celebrating the female gender today as I do every day.

God bless Humanity,
God bless Women,
God bless Nigeria and
God bless the NBA.
