INEC Publishes Details Of Candidates For Osun Governorship Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) published on Tuesday the personal data and the list of candidates (Form EC9) for the election of governor of the state of Osun.

In a statement, the commission, the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Electoral Information and Education Committee in Abuja, said the list was posted at INEC state and local government offices in Osun state, as required by law.

Okoye said the list was released in compliance with Electoral Law 2022, after the nominations closed.

The Nigerian News Agency reports that according to published details of the 15 candidates, although none of the gubernatorial candidates were women, six of the lieutenant governor candidates were women.

Published candidates include Adegboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adeleke Nurudeen of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), and Omigbodun Akinrinola of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

It reminds political parties that, in accordance with Article 32(2) of the Electoral Act 2022, any party that finds that its candidate’s name is missing from the list “shall notify the Commission in writing.

He said that said letter must be signed by the president and the national secretary, supported by an affidavit no later than 90 days before the election.

“In addition, the attention of the parties is drawn to Section 32 (3) of the Election Act of 2022, which states that failure to notify the Commission “shall not be grounds for invalidating the election.”

“The final list is posted at our state and local government offices in Osun, as well as on our website and social media platforms for public information as required by law.

“Political parties are urged to take note of the provisions of the law for compliance,” he said.
