INEC Proposes Policy To Retrieve And Destroy Unclaimed PVCs After 10 Years
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is considering a policy to recover and destroy Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) uncollected for over a decade. This proposal is among 208 recommendations from the review of the 2023 general elections, addressing over six million unclaimed PVCs, some dating back to 2015.
INEC also plans to modernize voting processes, potentially phasing out PVCs in favor of biometric accreditation through the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS). The changes will require amendments to the Electoral Act.
