Ilorin NBA Celebrates First Female Senior Advocate Of Nigeria
The Ilorin branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in Kwara State has produced its first female Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), marking a historic milestone in the branch’s over 50-year existence.
Barrister Ronke Adeyemi, a legal practitioner with deep roots in the Ilorin legal community, was among the newly elevated SANs, officially inaugurated on Monday by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun.
Adeyemi, who hails from Ekiti State but has long practiced law in Ilorin, becomes the first resident female lawyer in the region to achieve this prestigious rank. She is a graduate of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) and was called to the bar in 1993. Since 1995, she has built her legal career in Ilorin.
Her contributions to the legal profession extend beyond her private practice. Adeyemi served as Vice Chairman of the NBA’s Ilorin branch from 2007 to 2009 and was Chairperson of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) in Kwara State from 2014 to 2017. She also played a significant role as a member of the Judicial Panel of Inquiry on the EndSARS protests in 2020 and was a member of the NBA National Executive Committee from 2020 to 2022.
In addition to her legal career, Adeyemi currently serves as the President of the Kwara Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture (KWACCIMA), where she is also the first female to hold this position in the state.
Her elevation to SAN is seen as a groundbreaking achievement for the Ilorin legal community and a source of inspiration for female lawyers across the region.
