IGP Calls For Collaboration Between Nigeria Police And Legal Department

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr Usman Baba, has called for collaboration between the Nigeria Police and the office of the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).

Mr Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Deputy Force Public Relations Officer (DFPRO) made this known in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja.

He stated that the IGP made the call when he led members of the Force Management on a courtesy visit to the CJN, Justice Ibrahim Tanko.

The IGP said the collaboration is to ensure the accreditation of the Legal Department of the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State.

According to him, this is to enable graduates of the academy proceed for further studies at the Nigerian Law School.

“This is to ensure that the Police have more lawyers within its pool to strengthen its prosecutorial duties and hopefully produce more Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SAN) in future,” he said.

Baba said the visit was also to solidify the synergy between the Police and the Judiciary as key players in the Criminal Justice System of the nation.

He also stated that the idea was to ensure smooth and efficient dispensation of justice.

The IGP, however, pledged the commitment of his administration to uphold the sanctity of the Criminal Justice System and rule of law which, he said, are key to professionalism and citizen-based policing.

In his remark, the CJN commended the team for the visit, saying it was the first of its kind by a sitting IGP.

He also commended the IGP for his thoughtfulness and expressed the readiness of his office to continue to partner with the Nigeria Police for seamless justice administration.
