Health Insurance: NBA Will Persuade Members To Comply With The Provisions Of NHIA Act – Maikyau

The President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Mr Yakubu Chonoko Maikyau, OON, SAN has stated that the NBA is already currently compiling the subscription list of 1000 additional members to benefit from the National Health Insurance scheme for members.
He said this is in furtherance to his campaign promises, which includes a pledge to pay the premium for the initial 1000 members who were subscribed for by the association, and a pledge to pay for another 1000 members in the 2nd year of his administration; which would make it a total of 3000 members freely subscribed for by the Nigerian Bar Association.
Maikyau made this disclosure during a courtesy call on Prof Mohammed Sambo, the Director General and other management staff of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), where he promised that NBA will encourage its members to comply with the National Health Insurance Authority Act 2022 which was signed into law on the 19th of May 2022.
While noting that a healthy nation is a wealthy nation, Maikyau appreciated the DG and his staff for all their support and also thanked the DG for providing a peculiar card to NBA members upon subscription.
On his part, the Director General of the NHIA congratulated the NBA President for his victory at the polls and prayed for the success of his administration. He also recalled his performance at the Oputa Panel, noting that it was very audacious.
He encouraged the NBA national officers and other members of his delegation to work together with the President in order to achieve good results.
The DG NHIA, Sambo mentioned that the NBA President had shown a great mastery of the technicalities in the health sector far beyond what is seen in Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) and in fact, lectured them while he was speaking. He commended the visionary leadership of the NBA, stating that the NMA do not have the card which the NBA already has.
He concluded by stating that the NHIA planning committee will include the Nigerian Bar Association in the planning of the National Health Insurance Summit and three other committees to be set up and that they will continue to work with the NBA to meet sustainable goals.
