Gunmen Kidnap Lawyer, 2 Others In Anambra
On Sunday, gunmen reportedly abducted a lawyer, Victor Ezeoke, along with two others, Arinze Egenti and Celestine Ezeike, in Nkpologwu, Aguata Local Government Area, Anambra State. The incident took place between 7:30 and 8:00 AM at various locations within the community. The assailants swiftly carried out the kidnappings before fleeing the scenes.
A video circulating on social media shows an overturned vehicle on the Nkpologwu-Akpo road, believed to belong to one of the victims. A resident, Jude Ezeokonkwo, told journalists that the gunmen reportedly jumped into Mr. Egenti’s vehicle and wrestled control of the steering wheel with him. “But the vehicle somersaulted and crashed into a drainage ditch. They then emerged and kidnapped him,” he said.
Professor Ferdinand Ezeiruaku, President General of the Nkpologwu Community, confirmed the incident in a phone interview, stating that the gunmen were heavily armed. He revealed that two of the abducted individuals, including the lawyer, reside in Abuja, while the third is from Port Harcourt. They had returned to the community to attend an event organized by the local women’s group during their August meeting.
Professor Ezeiruaku called for public prayers for the victims’ safe and prompt release.
Police spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the development, stating that the state police command had launched an operation to track down the abductors. “We are working with locals for the possible rescue of the victims,” he said.
