Governor Fubara Invites Speaker Amaewhule, Lawmakers For Reconciliation Meeting

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has invited Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, and other lawmakers to a crucial meeting at the Government House, Port Harcourt, on Monday, March 11, 2025.
The invitation, conveyed through a letter dated March 7, 2025, was issued by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Tammy Danagogo.
Background of the Meeting
The meeting follows the Supreme Court’s ruling, which reinstated the Amaewhule-led faction of the Assembly. This group is politically aligned with former Rivers State Governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
In the letter, Governor Fubara acknowledged the court’s judgment and invited the lawmakers for discussions.
“And he has, therefore, directed to invite you and your colleagues, the Honourable members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, to a meeting,” the letter stated.
Key Issues on the Agenda
The discussions are expected to focus on:
- Securing a suitable venue for Assembly sittings.
- Addressing outstanding remuneration and allowances of lawmakers.
- Other legislative matters critical to the state’s governance.
This development signals a possible step toward resolving the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State and fostering legislative harmony between the Executive and the House of Assembly.
