Governor Aiyedatiwa Defies Court Order, Appoints Transition Committees To Ondo LCDAs
Despite a subsisting court judgment nullifying their creation, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has appointed transition committees to the 33 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in Ondo State.
The appointments, announced on Thursday morning, also include transition committees for the existing 18 Local Government Areas in the state.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly condemned the governor’s action, labeling it as “gross lawlessness” and a “flagrant disrespect” for the judiciary. In a statement signed by the state Publicity Secretary, Kennedy Peretei, the PDP stated:
“It is the height of lawlessness and impunity for Aiyedatiwa to appoint committees for LCDAs that are non-existent in the eyes of the law. We advise the Governor to respect the laws of the land and stop embarrassing the people of the state with his actions that make us a laughing stock in the comity of civilized people.”
This controversy follows a ruling by Justice Adegboyega Adebusoye of Akure High Court, which nullified the creation of the 33 LCDAs by the late Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu-led administration, describing them as “inchoate and unlawfully created.”
