Gov Aiyedatiwa Launches Arbitration Panel To Resolve Isinigbo/Igoba Land Dispute

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has established an arbitration committee to end the long‑running land dispute between Isinigbo and Igoba communities in Akure North LGA of Ondo State. The panel, chaired by Attorney General Dr. Olukayode Ajulo, SAN, OON, will mediate the conflict and restore peace.
Aiyedatiwa approved the committee following a resolution by the Ondo State House of Assembly, underscoring his administration’s commitment to security and harmony. “We must prevent further breakdown of law and order,” the governor said in a statement.
Dr. Ajulo, a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (UK), will lead fact‑finding sessions and guide negotiations. “Our aim is to identify root causes, engage all key actors, and facilitate lasting peace,” he explained.
Other committee members include Hon. Ololade Gbegudu of Okitipupa Constituency II, CP Wilson Afolabi of the State Police Command, Surveyor‑General Surv. Idowu Owolabi, and Mr. F.O. Adaramola of the Boundary Commission. Adaramola will serve as the committee’s secretary.
The panel has three months to submit recommendations to Deputy Governor Olayide Owolabi Adelami. Its mandate covers boundary clarification, actionable solutions, and policy proposals to prevent future clashes.
Local residents have expressed cautious optimism. “We welcome this arbitration effort and hope for a swift resolution,” said one Isinigbo community leader. An Igoba elder added, “Dialogue under neutral guidance offers real hope for peace.”
The Isinigbo/Igoba dispute has claimed lives and destroyed property worth millions of naira. Protests and reprisals strained social ties, disrupting community life.
By instituting the arbitration committee, Aiyedatiwa seeks to restore order and rebuild trust. Observers say the governor’s intervention marks a decisive step toward ending decades of tension and securing communal stability.
