Goodwill Message By Y.C. Maikyau, SAN To The Asaba Branch Of NBA On The Occasion Of Her Law Week

I congratulate the Branch Chairman, Executive Committee and the entire members of the Nigerian Bar Association, Asaba Branch on the occasion of the Branch’s 2021 Law Week.

The theme, “Recalibrating the Nigerian Legal System for Effective Justice Delivery” is very apt considering our present realities: in 2021, we are still governed by outdated and unrealistic laws that do not capture the present global trends; there are still instances where Justices are harassed in their homes based on flimsy and obscure warrants and of course, the pervading menace of guilty parties walking scot free due to technicalities and a lack of infrastructure to collect proper evidence.

It is of great importance that we interrogate various issues that are necessary in recalibrating the legal system, with a view to fashioning out operational solutions for effective justice delivery.

Once again, I felicitate with the Asaba Branch and her members and wish them a successful 2021 Law Week and also congratulate the Branch on the commissioning of their Bar Centre.
