Five Individuals Charged In Connection With Liam Payne’s Death In Argentina
Five individuals have been charged in connection with the tragic death of former One Direction star Liam Payne, who passed away on October 16 after falling from a third-floor balcony at the CasaSur Palermo hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He was 31.
According to reports by Argentinian news outlet Infobae, a judge has formally charged five people, with two currently remanded in custody. Among those charged is Payne’s friend, Rogelio “Roger” Nores, who reportedly left the singer at the hotel about an hour before the fatal incident. Nores has been charged with negligent homicide.
Two other individuals, Braian Paiz, a waiter, and CasaSur employee Ezequiel Pereyra, face charges of supplying narcotics for payment, after allegedly admitting to drug use with Payne, including cocaine.
Hotel managers Gilda Martín and Esteban Grassi have been charged with manslaughter, reportedly linked to their alleged failure to ensure Payne’s safety during his stay.
Court documents reveal that Payne had exhibited erratic behavior on the night of his death, with a 911 call warning authorities that he appeared aggressive and might have been under the influence of drugs and alcohol. Grassi, the hotel’s chief receptionist, claimed Payne repeatedly requested alcohol and inquired about obtaining cocaine, allegedly insulting staff when his demands were refused.
Authorities have also reviewed text messages allegedly exchanged between Payne and an escort, in which he reportedly offered () for a party.
Further complicating the case, a psychiatrist reportedly emailed Nores before the incident, stating it was “impossible” to continue supporting Payne’s mental health and cautioning against mixing antidepressants with alcohol.
Both Paiz and Pereyra have invoked their right to remain silent in court. If convicted of supplying narcotics for payment, they could face sentences of up to 15 years in prison.
The investigation into Payne’s death has attracted global attention, as fans and authorities seek clarity on the circumstances surrounding the tragic loss of the beloved musician.
