First Lady Oluremi Bola Tinubu Inaugurates Law Faculty Building, Establishes ₦50m Endowment Fund For Best Law Student At MAAUN, Kano

In a momentous occasion, First Lady Oluremi Bola Tinubu marked the unveiling of the Faculty of Law building at Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN) in Kano. The event, held yesterday, witnessed the acknowledgment and appreciation of the facilities by Mrs. Tinubu, who expressed gratitude to Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, the university’s founder, for naming the building in her honor.
Mrs. Tinubu commended Prof. Gwarzo for his dedication to enhancing educational standards both locally and internationally. She emphasized the crucial role of education in empowering the youth and announced a substantial ₦50 million endowment fund for the most outstanding law student graduating from the university.
In his address, Prof. Gwarzo reiterated MAAUN’s vision of becoming a globally recognized institution renowned for its excellence in teaching, research, and service. He emphasized the university’s mission to produce competent leaders and professionals through affordable, high-quality education.
The inauguration ceremony included a tour of the School of Law and the Murtala Ramat Mohammed Library, providing Mrs. Tinubu with a firsthand look at the university’s facilities.
Accompanying the First Lady were esteemed guests including former First Lady Hajia Maryam Sani Abacha, Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory Dr. Mariya Bunkure, former Minister of Women Affairs Mrs. Pauline Tallen, and Mrs. George Akume, wife of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
The event also saw the presence of 17 state governors’ wives from various states across Nigeria, highlighting the significance of the occasion and the widespread support for educational advancement.
Reflecting on her past experiences, Mrs. Tinubu fondly recalled her one-year National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) service in Kano State, underscoring the personal connection she has with the region.
The commissioning of the Law Faculty building and the establishment of the endowment fund mark significant milestones in MAAUN’s pursuit of academic excellence and affirm Mrs. Tinubu’s commitment to supporting education and youth empowerment initiatives.
