FG Ready To Receive Nigerians Facing Deportation From U.S. — NiDCOM
The Federal Government has expressed readiness to receive Nigerians deported from the United States, according to the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM).
Speaking in an interview on Tuesday, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, NiDCOM’s Director of Media and Corporate Affairs, stated that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is leading efforts to handle the situation.
Balogun revealed that the government has already established an inter-agency committee to manage any potential deportations. The committee includes:
- Ministry of Foreign Affairs
- Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM)
- Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs
- Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA)
Despite reports suggesting an impending deportation of 3,690 Nigerians, Balogun clarified that NiDCOM is not aware of any ongoing deportation process for Nigerians in the U.S.
BusinessDay earlier reported that Nigerians and other African migrants in the U.S. could face deportation following a renewed push by American authorities against illegal immigrants.
The report cited data from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), indicating that thousands of Nigerians might be affected by the crackdown.
NiDCOM assured that the Nigerian government remains prepared to assist affected citizens if necessary.
