FCT High Court Announces Easter Vacation, Names Vacation Judges

The FCT High Court in Abuja has announced its Easter vacation schedule. The Chief Judge directed the court to suspend sittings from April 16 to April 25, 2025. The court will resume sessions on Monday, April 28, 2025.

Special Assistant to the Chief Judge of the FCT, Oluseyi Amose Esq. delivered the notice on April 11, 2025, to all judges of the court. Amose stated that the notice follows Order 48 Rule 4(b) of the court’s rules. He wished the judges of the court a happy and peaceful Easter celebration. “We hope you enjoy a fulfilling Easter break,” he said.

In a follow-up notice, Amose also conveyed the appointment of vacation judges. The Chief Judge nominated Justice S.B. Belgore and Justice C.O. Odo to serve as vacation judges during the break. The appointments aim to ensure that urgent matters continue to receive attention throughout the vacation period.

Amose emphasised that these judges will handle any pressing applications during the break. The nominations reflect the court’s commitment to maintaining essential functions despite the holiday closure.

The FCT High Court aims to balance judicial duties and staff welfare. The Easter vacation allows the judiciary to rest and rejuvenate while providing a structured mechanism for handling urgent cases. The appointments of Justice Belgore and Justice Odo will help sustain a minimal level of service. Officials expect the vacation period to run smoothly, and any urgent issues will be addressed by the designated vacation judges.

This move underscores the court’s proactive approach to managing its workload during holidays. The court urges all judges to adhere strictly to the vacation schedule and prepare for a resumption of regular duties on April 28, 2025.

The announcements came as part of a broader initiative to streamline court operations and ensure that judicial services continue to meet public needs even during breaks. The FCT High Court remains committed to upholding the rule of law and providing accessible justice to all citizens.
