FCT Administration Warns Roadside Beggars To Vacate Or Face Arrest

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has issued a stern warning to roadside beggars, instructing them to leave the streets by October 27, 2024, or risk being arrested by enforcement agents.

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike delivered this warning during the flag-off ceremony for the construction of an access road to the newly established judges’ quarters in Katampe. He expressed concern over the rising number of people lingering on the roads, calling it an alarming security threat to the city.

At the same event, Wike recounted his recent decision to revoke the Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) for some plots of land in Katampe, which had been allocated to German construction company Julius Berger.

The minister spoke during the official launch of the Design and Construction of 40 Judges’ Quarters, a project that had already received 70% of its funding after being approved by the Federal Executive Council last month. Of the 40 units, 20 will be allocated to the FCT High Court, 10 to the Federal High Court, and 10 to the Court of Appeal.

The ceremony was attended by high-profile figures, including Chief Justice of Nigeria Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun and President of the Court of Appeal Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem, among other dignitaries.
