Falz Reflects on ENDSARS Protest, Says He Has No Regrets

Nigerian rapper and activist Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, says he has no regrets participating in the 2020 ENDSARS protest.

Speaking during a live interview at the #WithChude show held at Eko Hotels, Falz called the protest one of the toughest times in his life. He said the experience was emotionally intense, but he remains proud of standing up for justice alongside thousands of Nigerians.

Falz was one of the most prominent public figures who joined and supported the ENDSARS demonstrations. The protest, held in October 2020, was a nationwide youth-led movement against police brutality and abuse by the now-disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

According to Falz, he draws inspiration from his father, Femi Falana, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and long-time human rights lawyer. He said his father’s lifelong dedication to justice shaped his views on activism and civic responsibility.

“That period was one of the most intense and toughest times of my life,” Falz said. “But I don’t regret it at all. I was taught never to regret doing what I believe is right.”

He stressed that his involvement was not for attention or recognition but for the cause of humanity and compassion. “I’m not doing it for anybody specifically. It’s about what I feel strongly about. It’s about compassion about and about humanity,” he said.

Falz has continued to use his platform to speak against bad governance and injustice. In his music video “Johnny,” he paid tribute to victims of police brutality and raised awareness about the ENDSARS struggle.

Falz’s commitment to justice and civic action has made him a respected voice in Nigeria’s youth activism space, especially since the ENDSARS protests.
