Falana Calls For Greater Leadership Opportunities For Women
Renowned women’s rights advocate and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Mrs. Funmi Falana, has called for increased leadership roles for women in Nigerian governance, emphasising that women should no longer be relegated to the background.
Speaking at a state banquet in Ado Ekiti, organised by the Ekiti State Ministry of Justice to honour new SANs of Ekiti origin, Falana urged young women and girls to aspire to leadership through both appointive and elective roles.
The event was part of the second-anniversary celebrations for Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s administration and recognized accomplished legal professionals, including Mrs. Falana, Chief Lawrence Falade, Mrs. Folasade Alli, Mr. Adeoye Babatunde, Emmanuel Olayiwola, Ayoola Ajayi, Mrs. Oluronke Adeyemi, and Mr. Adeola Adedipe.
During her remarks, Falana praised the Ekiti State Government for honoring its own, which she described as a testament that “a prophet can be honored in their own town.” She encouraged younger generations to aim for the top, stressing that diligence and dedication to one’s work can lead to recognition and success.
Reflecting on her career, Mrs. Falana noted, “My life has been dedicated to fighting for women’s rights and defending the oppressed. This recognition is a testament to my work and my commitment to advancing women’s rights and empowerment.”
Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Dayo Apata (SAN), who also attended the event, highlighted that more than 50 Ekiti indigenes have risen to the esteemed rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria.
