Fake Police Officer Caught And Arrested With 495kg Of Indian Hemp In Gombe

The Gombe State Police Command has arrested a 52-year-old suspect, Vincent Ojo, for impersonating a police officer and being in possession of 495 kilograms of Indian hemp.

According to a statement issued on Sunday, February 23, 2025, by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, the suspect is a resident of Old Rukuba Quarters, Jos North LGA, Plateau State.

On February 22, 2025, at about 9:00 AM, operatives of Operation Hattara, led by CSP Ali Madaki, intercepted a black Lexus vehicle (GWA 79 CN Abuja) at Jekadafari area, Gombe metropolis, during the state’s end-of-month sanitation exercise.

The suspect claimed to be a police officer serving at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, but failed to provide a valid ID, rank, or department.

Upon searching the vehicle, officers discovered 495kg of Indian hemp, with an estimated street value of ₦12.65 million, along with an additional number plate (BWR 290 AX).

The suspect later confessed that he had purchased the illicit drugs in Ajegunle, Ilesha LGA, Osun State, transported them to Old Rukuba, Plateau State, and then reloaded them for delivery to Biu LGA, Borno State.

The police have launched an investigation, and Ojo will be charged in court upon its conclusion.

The Gombe State Police Command has urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to enhance security and curb crime.
