Fake NSCDC Officer Arrested In Anambra For Fraud And Extortion
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Anambra State has apprehended a man impersonating a civil defence officer, using the uniform to harass, extort, and defraud unsuspecting citizens. The suspect, Emmanuel Oche, 55, was paraded at the NSCDC command headquarters in Awka on Wednesday by the state commandant, Olatunde Maku.
Maku warned the public to remain cautious and verify the identity of anyone claiming to be an NSCDC officer. He detailed the arrest, explaining that the suspect was nabbed by operatives during a routine patrol in response to intelligence reports of suspicious activities in the Aroma area of Awka.
Oche, who hails from Agila Town in Ado Local Government Area of Benue State, was caught in full NSCDC uniform. Upon interrogation, he confessed to purchasing the uniform from a second-hand clothes seller in Ogbunike, Oyi Local Government Area, and admitted to using it to deceive and exploit his victims.
The NSCDC commandant has directed a thorough investigation into the source of the uniform and the suspect’s motives. Oche will be charged in court once the investigation is complete.
